Greetings and well met!
I am Maestra Ysabel de la Oya, delving into the delights of medieval cookery from my home in the Barony of Forgotten Sea, Kingdom of Calontir. Within these virtual halls, you’ll find my ongoing exploration of Western European cuisine from the High Middle Ages to the Renaissance, where every recipe tells a story of our shared past.
My particular passion lies in understanding how medieval people viewed the connection between food and wellness through the System of Four Humors. But my curiosity doesn’t stop there – I find myself equally fascinated by the daily meals of everyone from the humblest serf to the proudest merchant. Recently, I’ve begun unraveling the fascinating threads of peasant economics, discovering what different social classes could actually afford to put on their tables.
As an experienced feast cook in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), I’ve had the joy of preparing countless feasts and vigil tables throughout Calontir. My mission? To shatter the myth that historically accurate medieval food can’t be utterly delicious. Trust me – your taste buds are in for a pleasant surprise!
Whether you’re a fellow SCA enthusiast, a curious historian, or simply someone who loves good food with a story, you’ll find something here to pique your interest. So pull up a chair, grab a trencher, and let’s explore the fascinating world of medieval cuisine together.
